A cased Tranter-style, sheath trigger rim fire revolver in .30 calibre, six shot, bronze frame with rich, foliate engraving, excellent original blued finish to hammer, in its original leatherette case carrying Richard's trade label.
William Valerian Richards first appears in the Melbourne trade directories in 1855, suggesting he had already established himself the previous year at 54 Queen Street. He moved quickly between several address, 42 Queen Street (1856-57), 105 Bourke Street East (1859-66), until he moved to 59 Elizabeth Street - almost directly opposite James W. Rosier's premises at 66 Elizabeth Street from 1870 onwards - in 1867. Richards would remain at this address until his death in 1885. He is buried in an unmarked grave in St Kilda Cemetery.
