This vintage sundress was worn by the character `Tara Gregson/Alice', portrayed by Australian actor Toni Collette in the award winning series "United States of Tara".
The pink and white gingham dress with a red floral pattern is constructed of lightweight cotton, and features a sleeveless crossover bodice and full skirt. It was worn most notably in Alice's debut episode `Aftermath' (Season 1, Episode 2.) In the episode, Tara finds herself having difficulty talking to her daughter about sex, and becomes frustrated that her son prefers his father to deal with a school related problem rather than her. Her distress in dealing with the situation results in the emergence of her alter ego Alice, a perfect Betty Crocker 1950's housewife personality who decides to take matters into her own hands. This episode was aired in Australia on the ABC on the 5th August, 2009.
Toni Collette received an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy for the show's first season. The following year she won a Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series (Musical/ Comedy.)
The dress came from Palace Costume Company, the costume house in Los Angeles that hired it to the show's wardrobe department. Now if I can only find the green cardigan and gloves or the apron to go with it !!
