Educational Wall Chart - Freshwater Hydra

Designed by Jung-Koch-Quentell this paper chart illustrates the habit and form of the aquatic Hydra. I love that this was used as a teaching aid, it would have provided equal doses of fear and fascination I'm sure. The Hyrda at the top left is my favorite, its creepy tentacles capturing a passing crustacean is so Alienesque.

The chart was printed in 1965 and was manufactured in Dusseldorf by Lehrmittelverlag Hagemann whom still make and distribute botanical and zoological educational wall charts. They even reprint these original designs. My favourites are the Protozoa One, Daphnia and Cyclops and Cowslip.

Beautifully creepy - somewhat Dali-esque. You sure a Hydra is a plant disease? I thought it was an animal...?
