  My friend made this for me from an old kid's toy. I especially like the K for Kangaroo she put in its eye!

  It takes just a brooch back and a hot glue gun to convert kitschy childhood memorabilia into kitschy self-adornment. That said, I did actually buy these two. They never fail to attract nostalgic "oh I had those when I was a kid!" comments.

  Lots and lots of Buba Owls here - http://www.french-bijoux.com/en/buba.asp French brooch from Lea Stein, Paris. Production recommenced in the 1990s. Apparently: "They are recognizable and desirable for their extraordinary colors, textures and patterns, derived from a painstaking hands-on lamination process, invented by Lea Stein and still used in contemporary jewelry. No two pieces are exactly alike; each is collectible, signed and referenced in various books."
